ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ULAANBAATAR

Upon your arrival in Ulaanbaatar, your preferred language speaking guide will warmly welcome you, and transfer to the hotel you chose. After refreshment, start city exploring the treasures of Ulaanbaatar from Gandan monastery, Main Square Chinggis khan and Zaisan memorial hill. Enjoy a traditional throat singing performance in the evening and have Mongolian traditional meal.

DAY 2:  TRAVEL TO MIDDLE GOBI, BAGA GAZRYN CHULUU (260KM)

Head to Middle Gobi, a semi-arid steppe full of rare wildlife and open area. Have lunch at the stunning mountainside granite rock formation of Zorgol Khairkhan, height 1668m above sea level. It appears like a stupa from south, but from east it looks like having a spiral object on its top.  Drive to Baga Gazriin Chuluu national park with another iconic granite formation and ruin of Buddhist temple. Hike in the park, around the mountain pass and valley you can see considerable number of ancient graves, khirigsuurs, petroglyphs and monuments besides many gushing springs.  Overnight in tourist Ger camp.

DAY 3: HIKE IN TSAGAAN SUVARGA (240KM)

Continue travel in the Middle Gobi and explore Tsagaan Suvarga, a colorful geological formations in the valley and cliff shaped like White Stupa. This white limestone formation is over 60m tall at its highest point and continues for an impressive length of 400m. The stupa rises to the sky at an angle of 90 degrees. It is one of the most famous highlights in the Gobi. Hiking through the cliffs and take beautiful pictures. Overnight in tourist Ger camp.

DAY 4: TOUR TO THE VULTURE VALLEY (YOLYN AM) (270KM)

Today we will drive to the heart of Gobi desert and discover Gobi Gurban Saikhan National Park. The Gobi Gurban Saikhan means “Three beautiful mountains in the Gobi.” It is a beautiful national park itself rich in wildlife and scenic places. Among them, Yoliin Am/Vulture Valley is the accessible one by car. It is formatted by high rock walls and big glacier on the ground kept frozen during a hot summer days. It has breathtaking dramatic scenery and without doubt is one of the beautiful places of the country. Hiking along the valley and reach up the icy glacier, you may be lucky enough to see wild sheep and ibexes, grazing high on the cliff walls.  Visit natural museum of localities. Overnight in tourist Ger camp

DAY 5: EXPLORE KHONGOR SAND DUNES (200KM)

After breakfast, you will be driven to Khongor sand dunes. These are Mongolia’s largest sand dunes, reaching height of 300 meters in some areas. You will be riding on camel to explore the Khongor sand dunes. The two-humped Bactrian camels are very comfortable to ride as they walk slowly and gently, and you will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. The sand dunes change color with each hour of the day, from yellow to silver to rose-colored at (dawn/ sundown). Overnight in the tourist camp.

DAY 6: BAYANZAG , LAND OF DINOSAURS (180KM)

Our adventure will continue to the  Bayanzag, (known as Flaming Cliffs where the first nest of dinosaur eggs ever discovered was found in 1922) a site famous for the remains of the Dinosaurs which lived here 60 million years ago. We will have some stunning hiking through the cliffs and red sand dunes in search of dinosaur fossils may found and see the Gobi tree grove named “Bayanzag.” Bayanzag means “rich in saxaul trees.” This tree only grows in Central Asian Gobi.  Overnight in tourist camp

DAY 7: ONGI TEMPLE RUINS  (170KM)

Drive first through slate mountains and next on 80 km vast steppes heading Ongi Monastery.  Ongi – formerly one of the biggest Buddhist monasteries in Mongolia, there were two separate monasteries consisted of more than 30 temples on the shores of the Ongi River surrounded by the Gobi mountains. Ongi was ruined during a period of political repression in 1930s. Visit a new active temple, a ger museum, explore the monastery ruins and climb a nearby mountain to have views of the surrounding areas. Overnight in tourist camp

DAY 8: KHARKHORUM & ERDENEZUU, BAYANGOBI

Our today’s tour takes place in the transition zone from the Gobi desert to mountain steppes. Kharkhorin, formerly known as Kharakhorum, was once a capital of Genghis Khaan’s Great Mongol Empire in the 13th century. After the move of Mongolian capital to Beijing, and the fall of the Empire, Karakorum was abandoned and then destroyed by Manchurian soldiers in 1388. Today, in the vast valley of the Orkhon River, awe-inspiring ancient monastery Erdenezuu coexists with Kharkhorin town. See some valuable religious articles in the monastery museum, admire its stunning architecture and the Kharakhorum Museum display remnants of the ancient city. Drive to Bayangobi tourist camp in Elsentasarkhai sand dunes. Elsentasarhai is a unique place representing features of the Gobi desert, mountain steppes and grasslands in a single area.

DAY 9: RETURN TO ULAANBAATAR (280KM)

We head back to Ulaanbaatar. Once back in UB you will be transferred to hotel. If you would like to do some shopping for souvenirs and cashmeres in Ulaanbaatar, here is the chance and later in the evening, we all attend a live performance of Mongolian National folklore. Overnight in the hotel.

DAY 10: DEPARTURE

End of tour. You will be transferred to the airport.
