Upon your arrival in Ulaanbaatar, your preferred language speaking guide will warmly welcome you, and transfer to the hotel you chose. After refreshment, start city exploring the treasures of Ulaanbaatar from Gandan monastery, Main Square Chinggis khan and Zaisan memorial hill. Enjoy a traditional throat singing performance in the evening and have Mongolian traditional meal.
After breakfast, drive to Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue in Tsonjin Boldog Hill, where according to legend, he found a golden whip. The statue is in total 40m high and see as far sighted Chinggis Khaan holds a golden whip in his right hand. Visitors walk to the head of the horse through its chest and neck, where they have a panoramic view. The attached museum has exhibitions relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures and a second exhibition on the Great Khan period in the 13 and 14th centuries. Continue journey to Terelj National park – the most popular destination and the third biggest protected area in Mongolia. You’ll explore the extraordinary formation of rocks and stones; one of them look quite similar to turtle. Overnight in tourist camp.
Today we will explore the Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes. Elsen tasarkhai is a part of the Mongol Els sand dunes, which stretch from the Tuv, Uvurkhangai, and Bulgan provinces. The sand dunes are 80 km long total. River Tarnat flows in the western part of the sand dunes, it is sodden under its surfaces, so shrubberies such as willow, elm, dogwood, shrubbery grow there. In the north there is the rocky and woody mountain “Khugnu khaan” and in the south lies Mt. Ikh Mongol which defines the central point of Mongolia and is surrounded by the Elsen tasarkhai. You can ride camel or horse to explore the sand dunes. The two-humped Bactrian camels are very comfortable to ride as they walk slowly and gently, and you will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. In the Orkhon river valley, beautiful monastery Erdenezuu coexists with Kharkhorin town. The monastery built on the ruins of ancient Mongolian capital Kharakhorum (13th century) using old materials of the destroyed city. Kharakhorum was one of the stops of the famous “Silk Road.” Erdenezuu is the first and the largest monastery in Mongolia keeping religious masterpieces of the 17th-20th centuries. See some valuable religious items in the temple museum and admire its stunning architecture. Next, visit the Kharkhorum Museum and drive up a hill have turtle stone left from the ancient city Kharkhorum. Drive back to Bayangobi tourist camp for overnight.
In the morning, we will drive to the Hustai National Park. This area is home to the Mongolian wild horse, known as Perzevalski horse (takhi). After lunch at Hustai camp, we will visit the small Ger museum about the national park and wild horse. Then we will take short drive and hiking to see the animals in their natural habitat. This is great opportunity to take photo of these endangered horses. If you are lucky, you can see fox, deer, roe deer, eagle, lynx, pallas’ cat and more animals and birds. Drive to Ulaanbaatar. After lunch you will be transferred to Ulaanbaatar railway station for departure to Ulan-Ude.
In early morning you will arrive in Ulan-Ude and our English-Russian speaking guide will meet you at station and transfer to the 3*hotel. After refreshment, take a tour to the village of Old Believers – Russian people, who still live traditionally in a small community in the Buryat Republic. The Old Believers separated after 1666 from the official Russian Orthodox Church as a protest against church reforms introduced by Patriarch Nikon of Moscow between 1652 and 1666. Another name of this people — Semeyskie or Family People — was given because they moved to Siberia with their big families. These special people keep the traditions of their ancestors and have a unique identity. Today you will have a special lunch at Russian family, with Folk performance.
After breakfast take a short city tour: you will see its old part of the city, richly carved mansions that once belonged to local merchants and stone buildings of the 18th-19th centuries also you will visit Ivolginskiy datsan – a functioning Buddhist monastery, which is also the capital of Buddhism in Russia. After lunch drive to mysterious Lake Baikal – Wonder of Russia.
A day at leisure. You are welcome to choose entertainments to your taste, enjoy the sandy beach of Sukhaya, the place is famous also for the thermal spring, hiking along the picturesque shore. You can take an amazing motorboat tour to White Rock, get excited for roasted fish over an open fire and finally you may lucky to see Baikal seal, is a species of earless seal endemic to Lake Baikal and the only exclusively freshwater pinniped species.
After breakfast leave the resort at Baikal Lake and head to Ulan-Ude. You will be transferred to the city airport for flight to Moscow. End or the tour.
